A NEW production studio for Radio Verulam has been opened alongside its main premises in St Albans city centre.

The production and training studio, which was opened late last month, is being used to record items for later broadcast and for training volunteers in audio production techniques for radio broadcasting.

Such techniques include transferring an interview from a portable recorder to a computer, editing the audio on the computer and then saving it into a form suitable for broadcasting.

A grant of 4,600 from the Grassroots programme run by the Herts Community foundation made the new studio possible and Helen Doubal, project manager for Grassroots, visited the radio station to see where the money had gone and how Radio Verulam worked in action.
