A city centre cut-through is going to be shut for the filming of a popular ITV drama.
Pudding Lane will be closed an evening next week while ITV crews film the next series of Grantchester - a detective drama set in Cambridge.
The side street, which connects Market Place with St Peter’s Street, will be decked out like the exterior of a 1950s night club and will feature actors walking along the lane and sitting in conversation. Filming is scheduled to take place in June.
It is being co-produced by Kudos and Masterpiece.
Grantchester producer Richard Cookson, from Kudos, said: “We’re very excited to be filming in the beautiful city of St Albans.
“On Grantchester, we’re always searching for period locations that allow us recreate the 1950s, and the fantastic historic architecture of St Albans gives us exactly what we need.”
Series four of Grantchester was announced in April with a new casting for Sidney Chambers, formerly portrayed by James Norton.
Masterpiece executive producer Rebecca Eaton said: “It’s a bittersweet time for Grantchester fans, who will be cheering the return of the series but crushed to say goodbye to James. We want to assure them that the series they love will continue with brilliant new episodes and a captivating new vicar.”
