A couple hailed as St Albans’ answer to Posh and Becks celebrated 50 years of marriage last Saturday.
Graham and Barbara Barnes, both 69, joined friends and family at L’Italiana to mark their Golden Wedding anniversary, after first meeting through mutual friends as teens.
The local football player and beauty queen previously featured in the Herts Advertiser after Graham persuaded his new wife to enter the Holiday Princess Contest at Butlins in Brighton on their honeymoon, where she beat 16 other girls to win first place.
The former waitress, who once worked at Waterend Barn in St Albans, then went on to win Holiday Girl of the Week at a holiday camp in Cornwall.
Barbara, who has two sons and three grandchildren with Graham, said of her honeymoon win: “I won it in my trousers! Everyone else was in their bikinis.”
