Police cadets from St Albans beat other teams from around Hertfordshire in the annual county competition.

The fifth annual competition saw 150 volunteer police cadets, aged 14 to 18, meet at police headquarters in Welwyn Garden City to take part.

Each district sent 11 cadets, who took part in 12 different scenarios and team building exercises. These included a road traffic collision, a hostage rescue assault course, a 500 metre shield run where the cadets had to run carrying heavy riot shields and wearing riot helmets, arresting suspects in a mock shoplifting scenario and giving evidence in court in front of real life magistrates and lawyers.

The St Albans police cadets came first in the competition, with Hatfield and Hertford coming second and third. They were presented with awards on Sunday, July 9.

Chief constable Charlie Hall said: “The police cadets should be very proud of themselves.”
