St Albans’ own MasterChef will be joining in the fun at this year’s Herts Town and Country Show over the August Bank Holiday weekend.
A range of activities will entertain the whole family over the weekend – there will be a horse stunt team, a birds of prey and falconry demonstration, and a chance to see farm animals and reptiles.
Boris the giant tortoise will be around to amaze the youngsters and thrill-seekers can marvel at motorcyle stunts performed by Stunt Mania.
Puppy-lovers will love the Festival of Dogs, where pet pooches get the chance to go round an agility circuit, play games, or enter the various dog shows.
There will be talks on foraging and bath salt making, and St Albans MasterChef contestant Lyndsay Evans, along with celebrity chef Alan Coxon, will be showing off their cookery skills in demonstrations.
Tyttenhanger local Lyndsay said she was excited for the event: “I might do pineapple cannoli, to show a scientific molecular aspect, because it looks impressive and it’s very seasonal, and I might cook some unusual meat.
“I will show how to do the dishes from start to finish.
“I want to show people what’s possible and I want to show people how to cook some of the dishes I made on MasterChef.”
Lyndsay, who was a drumming DJ before turning her attentions to the kitchen, gained a reputation on the BBC One show for creating ambitious and flavoursome meals. She was knocked out in the semi-finals week.
She tries to combine Heston Blumenthal’s eccentric cooking with the down-to-earth style of Jamie Oliver.
Shopping stalls will also be dotted around the event, with opportunities to buy food and drink refreshments, rural crafts, and listen to eight up and coming music performances each day.
Children can enjoy Punch and Judy shows and meet Paw Patrol – a live theatre based on the TV show of the same name.
The event is being held in Cassiobury Park, Watford, on Sunday, August 27 from 11am to 6pm, and Monday, August 28, 11am to 5pm.
