The horticulture team at Oaklands College in St Albans won a silver medal for their design at BBC Gardener’s World.

The level 2 and 3 students and their tutors returned to the Gardener’s World Beautiful Borders competition, which celebrates creativity in design for small spaces.

A team of judges gave the Oaklands team’s ‘Bursting at the Seams’ design a silver merit for its creativity in working to the brief ‘every space counts’. The design features elevated pedestals and a table tree, and was created with the help of the college’s carpentry department, with plants grown at the St Albans campus to reach their best potential in time for the show.

Horticultural tutor Tee Robertson said: “This is our second time at the show – it offers us as an education provider an amazing opportunity to showcase our skills to a national audience. To be recognised by the expert judges with a Silver Merit is a great achievement.”
