The team of landscape construction and garden design students are hoping to win gold at the Beautiful Borders competition at Birmingham NEC.

Landscape construction coordinator Tee Robertson said: “It’s a big step to head to BBC Gardeners’ World for the first time – it’s a key date in the calendar for anyone in the industry, and it’s exciting that our students can now be a part of it.

“We’re told over 90,000 visitors are expected over the four days. Of course we’re hoping to win big, but what an incredible opportunity for our students to have their work seen by so many people.

“It’s been a long time coming but we can’t wait to get up to Birmingham in a few weeks’ time.”

The Oaklands team’s entry includes 24 different species of plant planted around a willow-woven frame.

Judges could choose to award it a gold, silver, or bronze prize, or the BBC Gardeners’ World Best Beautiful Border or Best Interpretation of a Theme prize.
