THE freehold of the new Tesco store in St Albans was sold off for what is believed to be considerably more than the guide price before today's auction.
The St Peter's Street building, which has been empty since Woolworths closed its stores nationwide, will be occupied by a new Tesco this summer.
It was due to be auctioned today with a guide price of �4.3 million.but the sale was completed before the auction at the Millennium Hotel in Grosvenor Square, London.
Local ward councillor Jack Pia commented: "I am delighted that it has been sold off for more than the guide price because it shows how desirable retail premises are in St Peter's Street.
