St Albans Museum + Gallery could play music outside until 1am on a weekday if an application to extend its licensing hours is approved.

The museum has applied to St Albans council for a licence that would allow them to play live and recorded music, hold performances and sell alcohol in outdoor and indoor areas for a greater number of hours.

Currently, the premises can hold live performances, show films, and play music between 10am and 12.30am on Mondays to Wednesdays, 10am to 1am on Thursdays to Saturdays, 10am to 11pm on Sunday and 10am to 1am on Sundays immediately prior to a Bank Holiday Monday and Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve where these fall on a Sunday.

They have applied to the council’s licensing committee to host plays indoors and outdoors, show films indoors, play live and recorded music and hold dance performances between 8am and 12.30am on Mondays to Wednesdays, 8am to 1am on Thursdays to Saturdays, 8am to 11.30pm on Sundays and 8am to 1am on Sundays immediately prior to a Bank Holiday Monday and Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve where these fall on a Sunday.

They have also applied to increase the hours they can sell alcohol to 8am in the morning on all days, rather than the 11am limit that is in place currently. On Sundays, the museum would be able to sell alcohol for half an hour later, until 11.30pm, if the application goes through.

The museum would also stay open until midnight on Sundays under the proposed licence changes.
