MP Anne Main has added her voice to concerns about a proposed electricity generator which residents fear could shatter their peace and quiet.
UK Power Reserve Ltd., has submitted an application for an electricity generator plant with eight gas turbines on the roof of an empty unit at Alban Park in Hatfield Road, St Albans.
Only a handful of residents living close to the proposal were notified about it and there have been no pre-application deliberations about the proposal.
Mrs Main, MP for St Albans, met local residents John Cordingley and Tricia Gascoine last week to discuss the application.
She said: “It is monstrous that this application is being rushed through and residents are being denied the opportunity to give full scrutiny in what I believe will be a very disruptive project.
“I think local residents should have the opportunity to have full noise monitoring modelling; they should also query why there are so many inaccuracies in the application including the lack of showing the biodiversity of the site.”
She called for the application not to be ‘rushed through’ and the wishes of the residents put first not those of the applicant.

Generally electricity generating plants are installed in industrial areas but Alban Park, with its close proximity to residential properties, is zoned light industrial. The nearest house is just 10 metres away from the unit and residents fears they will be subjected to noise and pollution should it go ahead.
