Mock emergency exercise in Hatfield tunnel on Saturday night

THE HATFIELD tunnel will be closed late tomorrow night to allow an emergency exercise to be carried out.

Police, fire and rescue, ambulance crews, local authorities and the Highways Agency are among organisations participating in the mock emergency, which is being staged to test plans to deal with a major incident in the A1 (M) Hatfield tunnel.

A spokesman said the A1 (M) between J3 and J4 in both directions, the northbound entry slip road at J3 and southbound entry slip road at J4, will be closed overnight on Saturday October 1, from 10pm until 5am during the exercise.

A diversion route will be fully signposted, directing traffic onto the A1001.
