THE application by St Albans to become the first district in Hertfordshire to have a Lord Mayor has been submitted.

New Mayor, Cllr Aislinn Lee, joined St Albans council chief executive, Daniel Goodwin, in signing the cover letter for the district’s application for the Lord Mayoralty competition which is being held to mark the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee in 2012.

The bid has the wholehearted backing of the Herts Advertiser which was the first to reveal that the district was going up against the likes of Bath, Cambridge, Durham and Salisbury in the competition.

St Albans is the only city with over 800 years of history without a Lord Mayoralty which is one of the grounds for submission. It is also the only city in Hertfordshire and it has over 2,000 years of human occupation as well as playing a major role in the planning of national Magna Carta celebrations in 2015.
