A St Albans business which has created scented candles for Disney, celebrity chef Antony Worrall Thompson and Blenheim Palace, the birthplace of Sir Winston Churchill, has expanded to teach people about fragrances.
The Mayor of St Albans, Cllr Geoff Harrison, has officially opened a new visitors centre and sensory garden at Potters Crouch Candles, Prae Wood Farm Barn, Hemel Hempstead Road.
The business has been making scented candles for a quarter of a century.
Cllr Harrison said: “This is definitely the best-kept secret in St Albans.”
The Mayor added: “What an amazing discovery. It’s great that such high quality fragrance products are made right here in St Albans and shipped all over the world. That’s something we as a city and district should be very proud of.”
Special guests at the opening ceremony included John Bailey of the Perfumers Guild, who helped create the new sensory garden.
As plants mature, workshops for children and other groups will be hosted from next summer to teach visitors about fragrance, how our sense of smell works, and how taste and smell are closely interlinked.
