FIRST-time marathon runner Josh James got to meet an Olympic legend and an Arsenal player after raising money for his football club’s charitable trust.

The 32 year old from Grimthorpe Close, St Albans, ran the Flora London Marathon in just four hours and 29 minutes, raising 1,700 which was split between the Arsenal Charitable Trust and Breast Cancer Care, a cause close to his heart after his sister-in-law was diagnosed with the disease in 2008.

The Arsenal Charitable Trust has raised more than 2 million for worthy causes over its 19-year history and each year around 50,000 is distributed in small amounts to worthy causes such as hospitals, disability groups and charities for young children and people.

Josh said: “It was my first ever marathon and I’d certainly like to do it again one year and beat my time. The crowds were fantastic the whole way round, although if I did ever do it again I’d make sure I knew whereabouts my family were going to be on the course.”

He was recently invited along to the football ground along with other marathon runners to be presented with a medal for his efforts by Dame Kelly Holmes and Arsenal player Nicklas Bendtner.
