CHOOSING the right ring to propose to the woman – or man – of your dreams can be a relationship-defining moment and a St Albans jeweller is hoping to help that big moment go without a hitch.

Christopher Wharton Goldsmith on George Street has come up with the innovative idea of a proposal ring for those looking to propose to their beloved. Designed, sold and marketed exclusively by the jewellers, the ring looks like a classic modern diamond and platinum engagement ring engraved with the words “marry me” and can be used just for the proposal.

After the big question is popped, couples can then return to the jewellers and choose an engagement ring and enjoy a glass of champagne together. The proposal ring can be exchanged for a 10 per cent discount on the actual engagement ring, or a full refund of its purchase price of £90.

Managing director, Christopher Wharton, said: “It is a lot of pressure for the man to get the right ring to propose with. Our proposal ring service removes any risk of getting it wrong. You’d be surprised how many stories we heard about “dummy” or “stunt” rings being used. It’s far more attractive than a Hula Hoop and gets you a generous discount off your eventual ring selection.”

The family jewellers, whose business presence in St Albans reaches back to 1947 when Chris’s father began his watch-making business, said that so far the ring had received massive interest from those looking to propose and they expect its popularity to grow over the coming month.

The ring can be purchased from their St Albans or Cambridge showrooms. For more information, visit
