BUDDING young reporters at a secondary school in St Albans will star in front of BBC cameras this weekend.
Seven Year 9 pupils - Rachel, Lucy, Emma, Sarah, Hannah, Millie and Ciara - at St Albans High School (SAHS) for Girls are heading to Heartwood Forest near Sandridge on Saturday as part of the BBC School Report initiative.
The scheme encourages young people to get involved in news reporting and, impressed with their work so far, the BBC has chosen to shadow the SAHS team's activities for a day.
The team of girls - led by head of ICT Carole-Ann Wright - have been busy reporting on local and national issues since Christmas and their achievements so far include probing interviews with Marks & Spencer about environmental issues.
In their attempt to promote Heartwood Forest, the pupils will be filming their favourite parts of the site and are sending a professional photographer up in a helicopter to take aerial shots of the site.
Mrs Wright said that she hopes some of the footage will be broadcasted on BBC School Report Day on March 26 and added: "Everyone's amazed that we've got so much done with such a small team. All seven of the girls are such hard workers and I'm glad that the BBC wants to borrow us!
