St Albans' Grove House expands bereavement service
PUBLISHED: 15:09 19 August 2011
A SERVICE for the recently bereaved which is offered at Grove House is to be expanded.
It follows the success of the first year with bereavement visitors – specially trained volunteers who provide a listening service at the homes of those who have been recently bereaved because of cancer or another long-term illness, such as motor neurone disease.
Grove House family support services manager, Irene Nicholson, said: “Here at Grove House we are constantly reviewing our services to see whether there is any new service we could provide that would help the local community.
“When a person is bereaved they sometimes find it difficult to talk about their grief to their family as they too are grieving. At times it is also hard to talk to friends but can be much easier to talk to someone outside their circle about their grief.
“Our experienced volunteers will be able to listen to anyone who feels they would like talk to someone about how they are feeling in the privacy of their own home.”
The service is available every day of the week, including evenings. in the areas of St Albans, Harpenden, and Hemel Hempstead If you would like to find out more about the service, contact Irene Nicholson on 01727 731027.
