Television personality and golf fanatic, Vernon Kay, will cohost a St Albans golf tournament on May 6-7.

Vernon, who hosts All Star Family Fortunes, will be introducing the new GolfSixes event at Centurion golf club.

He said: “I’m a huge golf fan, and avid participant, so I’m excited to be involved in the first ever GolfSixes event.

“I love the traditional format of golf, and I’m always trying to bring the handicap down, but this event is fresh and energetic.

“I hope we will be able to entertain existing fans, as well as attracting new people to the sport, whether they come along and interact with us over the weekend, or watch from home.

“There will be a lot of action going on around the course, with players and celebrity guests getting involved, and I’m looking forward to being at the heart of it all.”

Teams of two from 16 different countries will play a six-hole circuit for a chance to win €1 million.

Teams will split into four groups of four, before the top two teams from each group progress to the knockout stages.

The knockout stages will consist of quarter-finals, the semi-finals, a third and fourth place play-off match and the final, all of which will be contested on Sunday, May 7.

Ryder Cup stars Chris Wood and Andy Sullivan will represent England at the tournament, and Richie Ramsey and Marc Warren will play for Scotland.
