A CELEBRATION of five years work and the launch of a new collection are behind a gathering at a gallery in St Albans this week.

Original Canvases on the High Street – above Graphics Plus – will host a late-night opening on Thursday, April 7. Artist Ben Askem will celebrate five successful years and launch Reflections, a unique series of work depicting iconic places and subjects. Painted on metal, rather than canvas, the work has been an idea of Ben’s for sometime but it’s only recently that he’s been able to bring together the materials, ideas and techniques.

Ben said: “It’s great to be marking five successful years. Original Canvases was always about the public being able to deal directly with the artist in a relaxed and welcoming atmosphere and it’s been a real pleasure to do that.

“I now have many regular customers that I’m pleased to call friends and I very much look forward to serving all of my customers, both old and new, in the future.”

Ben, 33, began selling his work on a market stall in St Albans before opening the gallery in 2006. On Thursday the gallery will open until 8.30pm and there will be 10 per cent off all marked prices.
