A FRAUDSTER from St Albans who masterminded an expensive benefits swindle has received a suspended prison sentence.

Zaheen Khalid, aged 36, of Lawrence Road, appeared at Luton Magistrates Court this week on three charges of allowing the furnishing of false documentation to Luton Borough Council in order to obtain benefits.

Khalid filled out three benefit application forms on behalf of her mother, claiming to be the unrelated landlord of her property in Luton. But council investigations revealed the true identity of the landlord to be Khalid's brother.

By providing false and misleading information to the council, Khalid obtained £14,237 in benefits.

At court on Wednesday, she was sentenced to four weeks imprisonment for each offence and an eight-week curfew from 9pm to 5am was also imposed.
