Hundreds of people attended a recent open day at St Albans Fire Station, which featured chip pan fire demonstrations, a chance to look at the county’s new rescue support unit and games of ‘search for and rescue the teddy bear’.

Watch commander Lee Watson said: “The weather held true until late afternoon, which saw our firefighters and volunteers kept extremely busy at all of the activities.

“On the hour every hour the crews carried out a chip pan fire demonstration which saw many surprised and some shocked faces in the crowd, after people witnessed the effects of putting water on to a hot pan.”
