Community minded St Albans footballers have visited a primary school to encourage healthy eating in children.
St Albans FC (SAFC) co-owner Lawrence Levy, first-team player Sam Merson and mascot Sammy the Saint went to Colney Heath Junior Mixed Infant and Nursery School to take an assembly about healthy lifestyles.
Saints striker Sam said it is important for SAFC to encourage children to be brave and tackle any sport, not worrying about perfection: “I explained that the only way to learn and get better is to make mistakes.”
Colney Heath’s headmaster, Peter Rose, added: “It is great to have professional footballer talking to the children and sharing their experiences. The children especially enjoyed having Sammy the Saint in school.’
The assembly is part of a community programme alongside City Youth, which includes multi-sports coaching in 20 schools. Contact firstname.lastname@example.org for more information about arranging an assembly.
