St Albans’ own hound dog Elvis Shmelvis hit the big screen on Saturday alongside other top tribute acts.

He was featured on the pilot episode of BBC1’s Even Better Than The Real Thing, which features lookalikes from around the world performing in a competition for best act.

Elvis Shmelvis, aka Martyn Dias, was interviewed and seen performing a Vegas-style wedding ceremony. He is the only fully qualified and certified Elvis wedding celebrant in the UK.

Martyn spent 12 hours on set for the show, and revealed: “I normally wear my tight fitting lined jumpsuit with the big heavy belt for an hour max, so 12 hours in a confined club was rather challenging. It was a strange feeling spending the day in the company of Amy Winehouse, Elton John, Shirley Bassey, Cher, Debbie Harry and Britney Spears.”

Keep your eyes peeled for more Elvis Shmelvis as the second part of the show will be aired at Christmas on BBC1.
