Deepest, darkest Shepherd’s Bush is hosting “FrightFest” for the Horror Channel, featuring the world premiere of a psychological thriller produced by a St Albans movie fanatic.
Broken, the intense debut indie feature film of Shaun Robert Smith, a writer and director, has been selected to show on the main screen at FrightFest this Sunday, August 28.
Shaun has also been nominated for Screen International’s ‘Rising Star’ award for 2016 at the 17th FrightFest, which runs from August 24-29 at Shepherd’s Bush Vue Cinema.
A pleased Shaun said: “It is a huge achievement.”
The feature film is described in the FrightFest programme as a “a stunning tour-de-force by director Shaun Robert Smith featuring fearless performances … this unique thriller is a 2016 highlight.”
The film tells the story of a young woman, Evie (Morjana Alaoui) coming to England to make a fresh start after a harrowing childhood. She takes a job as an agency carer and is placed with a tetraplegic patient, John. But looking after the bitter former rock star and his excessive demands is emotionally and physically draining, and “it’s only a matter of time before someone terrifyingly snaps”.
The Herts Advertiser carried a story on Shaun’s debut thriller, previously titled The Myth of Hopelessness, earlier this year.
Aside from zombies and general carnage, FrightFest includes the European premiere of My Father Die directed by Sean Brosnan, the son of actor Pierce Brosnan.
The Horror Channel is the UK’s original channel dedicated to the “dark side of cinema and television”.
