Nearly 400 youngsters swung into the city’s cinema for a special film showing as part of celebrations to mark the centenary of cub scouts.
Boys and girls from cub packs across the St Albans area were invited to a showing on the new Disney adaptation of The Jungle Book at The Odyssey in London Road.
Use of the hugely popular story, published in 1894, as a motivational book by the cub scouts was approved by its author Rudyard Kipling at the request of Robert Baden-Powell, founder of the scouting movement.
Akela, the head wolf in The Jungle Book, has become a senior figure in the movement, the name being traditionally adopted by the leader of each cub scout pack.
Since opening its doors, The Odyssey has partnered with the St Albans scout district on a number of occasions, including offering the younger beaver scouts a special showing of Disney’s The Lion King last year.
