For the first time in many years, St Albans council has father and son councillors in its ranks.
Anthony Rowlands, who represents Ashley ward for the Lib Dems, looked on proudly at Friday’s local election count as his 29-year-old son Sam took the seat in Clarence ward.
Sam, who works for a St Albans firm of solicitors, said: “Although I was brought up in a Lib Dem household, I was very much encouraged to make up my own mind and came to realise rebellion for its own sake would have been a futile gesture!”
