THE widow of a popular district and county councillor who died earlier this year has been presented with a certificate recognising his service and contribution.

The Mayor of St Albans, Cllr Maxine Crawley, presented Alison Ellis with the certificate in memory of her late husband Mike, who represented Ashley Ward, at last week’s full meeting of the district council.

The Mayor said: “Mike was first and foremost a lovely man. He was a true gentleman. Although softly spoken, Mike was passionate about looking after his community.

“He had a rare gift as a councillor – the ability to only speak when he had an excellent point to make. He would stop everyone else in their tracks and really make them think. Mike is very much missed but very fondly remembered by all.”

Mrs Ellis responded by saying it was an honour to receive the award on behalf of her husband who felt honoured to be part of the council.
