A LEADING St Albans councillor lost his fight for life yesterday after being taken into hospital last week.
Tributes have been pouring in for former environment portfolio holder Mike Ellis, who lived in Camp Road, St Albans, with his wife Alison and three sons.
He died in St Albans City Hospital where he was receiving palliative care.
LibDem Leader of the Council Robert Donald said: "Mike never sought the limelight, recognition or a position but was just pleased to be known for unassumingly and efficiently getting the job done well."
Fellow Ashley ward councillors Anthony Rowlands and Iqbal Zia said Mr Ellis was a councillor of the highest calibre.
They added: "We have lost a dear friend and a loyal colleague. Our thoughts and prayers are with Alison and their three sons.
