Staff and customers at a St Albans Co-op have raised nearly £2,000 for the city's talking newspaper.

Customers at the shop in Cell Barnes Lane raised £1,790.07 for the St Albans and District Talking Newspaper (SADTN) through the Co-op Local Community Fund.

Leonie, wife of store manager Tom Digby, raised a further £79 by holding a cake bake on Saturday, November 25, helped by her son Teddy and staff member Josef.

SADTN volunteers Jenny Schon and Robin Christoforou received donations and showed customers how the talking newspaper provides visually impaired residents with a weekly audio programme of local news.

Jenny and Robin said: “These funds will help us to add to our recording studio facilities and also enable us to reach out to those who, for whatever reason, are unable to pick up and read newspapers and magazines – whether they’re living at home or in residential care.”
