The St Albans Clock Tower was opened to the public on Good Friday in an official ceremony.
Mayor of St Albans Cllr Rosemary Farmer opened the clock tower with a 6.5lb ceremonial key made of solid iron, a replica of the original key which is held at Verulamium Museum.
The Clock Tower will now be open every weekend and bank holiday until the end of September. It is run by a band of volunteers, known as the Clockateers, who are drawn from membership of the Civic Society and the St Albans and Hertfordshire Architectural and Archaeological Society (SAHAAS).
Dating back to the 15th century, the Clock Tower is the only surviving medieval town belfry in England.
