Shakespearean fun with St Albans Mayor Cllr Frances Leonard raised more than £1,200 for charity this St George’s Day.
More than 100 people turned up to watch Kenneth Branagh’s Henry V screened at St Albans Abbey Theatre in aid of Youth Talk - a charity which gives confidential counselling for people aged 13 to 25 in St Albans.
Before the film a teacher at St Albans High School for Girls, Jonathan Benjamin, took a talk on the story and St Albans Mummers performed George and the Dragon.
Cllr Leonard thanked everyone for supporting the event: “It was a great evening that raised money for a worthy cause and helped mark St George’s Day.
“The screening of Kenneth Branagh’s celebrated film adaptation of Henry V also fittingly took place on the anniversary of Shakespeare’s birthday.”
Chief executive of Youth Talk, Trevor Fromant, said: “We are extremely grateful to have been chosen to receive the proceeds from the screening of the Mayor’s charity fund raising film.”
