A world-renowned male grooming expert from St Albans has travelled to Russia to do hair for footballers at the World Cup.
Daniel Johnson, who grew up in St Albans and attended the former Francis Bacon school, flew out to Russia to style the England team’s hair before matches.
Throughout his career, Daniel has styled the hair of famous footballers including Wayne Rooney, Gareth Bale, Ashley Young and Rio Ferdinand, and has worked on other members of the film, sport, fashion and music elite.
He said: “In the UK I do the footballer’s hair in the premier league and other celebrities and actors as well.
“I’m out in Russia at the moment looking after them before their games. I get flown out for the Euros - I’ve been doing it for about 10 years and I’m involved in most of the major tournaments.”
Daniel started cutting hair professionally when he was 16, and by the time he was 24 had four salons. He said: “I started cutting hair for the lower league players at the championship league, some of which have gone on to the premier league.
“My whole career has been through word of mouth.”
As well as styling hair, Daniel has also brought out his own fragrance, called ‘Artemis’, and a grooming collection, both of which are available online.
He will be going on tour across the UK as part of ‘Daniel’s Academy’, where he will offer courses and training alongside his team of experts, before branching out to tour Europe. The tour is launching in Manchester in September and will be going to 12 different locations.
He said: “I love what I do. It started out as a passion, I started cutting hair at school when I was about 12 years old. Then I started doing bankers, doctors, lawyers and so on, and then I started doing footballers.
“I’ve worked on X Factor, MTV and BBC Sport.”
According to comments on Daniel’s online client portfolio, Wayne Rooney said: “Daniel knows how to style my hair and does the business every time. Daniel’s been cutting and styling my hair for some time now. I wouldn’t let another stylist style my hair.”
