A man was today (Tuesday) taken into police custody after being arrested on suspicion of causing £900 worth of criminal damage to CCTV cameras in a country lane in St Albans.

The four cameras were installed by the district council in Bedmond Lane to deter and capture images of fly-tipping in the lane.

But they were shot at with an air rifle between 5pm on Friday April 18 and 7.40am on Monday April 21 this year.

A spokesman for Herts Police said that a 21 year old man from Kensworth, Bedfordshire, was arrested following publicity in the pages of the Herts Advertiser.
