The blue Peugot 206 was travelling along Redbourn Road just after 4pm yesterday (Sunday) when the engine started to smoke.

The driver pulled over and stopped at a layby opposite The Pré Hotel and, shortly afterwards, the vehicle caught alight.

St Albans firefighters arrived on the scene minutes later to extinguish the flames.

Nobody was hurt in the incident.
