A name change for a local charity which is hoping to raise its profile was celebrated by supporters last week.

St Albans Bereavement Network (SABN) has changed its name to Bereavement Matters to better sum up the work it does.

SABN was established in 2002 to offer guidance and support to people who had experienced bereavement.

It has since gone from strength to strength and now offers a range of professional services.

Last year SABN moved to new premises in Catherine Street and with the appointment of the former Bishop of Chelmsford, the Rt Rev John Gladwin as chair, the trustees decided to adopt the new name which was felt to reflect more accurately what the charity does.

The new offices include a number of counselling suites but it currently costs £110,000 to maintain the charity’s services.

The charity’s annual Service of Remembrance and Thanksgiving is being held at 3pm next Sunday, November 23, in the cathedral. The service will be preceded at 2.30pm by the release of doves in front of the West Door. The Rt Rev Gladwin said: “This very special event brings together those experiencing a loss, including families, friends and children who can draw comfort from one another.”
