A HOME-grown band saw their music video go head-to-head with the likes of David Bowie, Adele and Mumford and Sons last week as it was showcased on a popular online music channel.

St Albans quartet Broken Boat said it was “pretty awesome” to get their track Peace and Quiet featured on Muzu.tv alongside the industry’s finest and were thrilled their self-made animated video racked up just shy of 14,000 views since going live on Monday, March 25.

The animation was created by band members Dan Bahrami and Brendan Kearney through their digital design company Molk and follows a small boat embarking on an adventure across and under the sea.

Lead singer and guitarist Dan said: “Our video was finished too late for the St Albans Film Festival, so we’re pleased that Muzu.tv have picked it up.”

Their self-proclaimed ‘modern folk’ music has won praise from Radio 2 DJ Bob Harris who complimented their “beautifully crafted” and “twisting melodies [of] love and loss”, while Muzu.tv described the band’s songs as “an antidote to the busy life here in London”.

The band are signed to Berkhamsted-based recording company, Which Wolf Wins, through which they released their debut EP Peace and Quiet.

Former Verulam school student Dan explained he met multi-instrumentalist Brendan when they were at university in Plymouth.

When asked if he had always dreamt of being in a band, the 23-year-old songwriter said: “No not really it just happened. I only learnt guitar, while at uni and wrote some really simple songs and then played them to Brendan.

The boys became a duo and began playing at pubs without a name, before settling on Broken Boat – a nod to the maritime nature of Plymouth.

Now the band hope to continue gigging which will no doubt be welcomed by the two new additions to the band, former St Albans High School for Girls pupil and accordion player Jess Hart, and drummer Jerome Maree.
