The ninth St Albans Band Aid (SABA) was held on Saturday, September 9, in front of Ladbrokes in the town centre. As well as offering to host the event, which in its first year was held outside the clock tower, Ladbrokes also offered to match the funding and bring the total up to £3,000.

The event itself, which featured performer Elvis Shmelvis, raised £1,528 for Grove Hospice and Keech Children’s Hospice.

Organiser Dene Rosewarn said: “I would like to thank all our amazingly generous St Albans residents who have dug deep and given hard-earned cash again this year.

“I would also like to thank the amazing bucket shakers, sent from Grove House, but more so my loyal all-day ladies and gents who have helped from dawn to dusk year in year out: Mike Hodge, Katherine Scott, Sian Goodwin, Becca, Eamon, to name but a few.”
