An award-winning St Albans author will be swapping fiction for fact when she appears in a real-life crime documentary series.

Angela Clarke, writer of the Social Media Murders series and Confessions of a Fashionista, will feature on new CBS Reality series Written in Blood in September.

The 10-part season focuses on top UK crime writers discussing the real-life cases that inspired their books - Angela will be talking about Peter Chapman, the Facebook Killer.

He kidnapped, raped, and murdered 17-year-old Ashleigh Hall in 2010 after luring her to meet him using a fake Facebook profile. This brutal killing formed part of the inspiration for Watch Me, book number two in Angela’s series.

Each episode will use a mix of reconstruction and real-life footage to illustrate the gruesome tales, as well as interviews with senior police officers, family members, witnesses, and experts.

Simon Toyne, author of Sanctus and The Boy who Saw, is hosting the new TV series.

Angela said: “It was really interesting experience, we went to up to where the murder actually took place so it made it really emotional to go through it all and I really feel for the victim, she was such a young girl, she was only 17.

“It was a really interesting project because instead of using journalists, who are trained in black and white reporting, they interviewed authors and part of our job is to get into the emotional side of a story - and it makes for a more emotional experience than perhaps a real-life crime show has before.”

Other authors featured in the episodes include Alex Marwood, Peter James, Luke Delaney, and Elly Griffiths.

Host Simon said: “Everyone I’ve ever met is obsessed with real life crimes and the people who commit them, and crime writers are no different. In this series I get to talk to some of the brightest lights in crime about the darkest criminals in history and I absolutely loved every second of it.”

Executive producer of Written in Blood, Sam Rowden, added: “Our audience consumes crime across all media, so we were keen to bring the world of crime books on screen and investigate how literature is so often inspired by the true crimes the CBS Reality audience loves to watch.”

The episode with Angela will air on September 24 at 10pm on Sky (Channel 146), Virgin (Channel 148), Freesat (Channel 135), and Freeview (Channel 66).
