St Albans and Harpenden homes hit hard by thunderstorm

Firefighters were called to eleven addresses last night (Thursday) due to flood damage caused by a huge storm.

Herts Fire Control received 150 calls after the county was hit by a thunderstorm, causing numerous properties to flood.

Five addresses visted were in St Albans, including homes in Park Street, Dellfield Street, Tavistock Avenue, and Oakfield Avenue, which all reported floodwater leaking into buildings.

A car in Highfield Lane, St Albans, become trapped in floodwater on the road, but a spokesman for fire control said there no passengers inside.

Six homes in Harpenden also fell victim to the flash flooding and firefighters had to help stop water leaking into homes in Roundwood Park, West Common Way, Hillside Road, Leyton Road, Luton Road, and on the High Street.
