St Albans and Harpenden celebrate our armed forces

Armed Forces Day

Armed Forces Day

Sunshine shone on young and old alike as they celebrated Armed Forces Day on Saturday.

Many gathered for the parade on Harpenden Common, which finished with a service at the war memorial.

The Honourable Artillery Company band and the Harpenden Pipe Band then performed to the crowds.

The day aimed to raise public awareness of the contribution made by those who have served, and by those who are still serving.

Cllr Brian Ellis, Mayor of Harpenden, said: “It was a fantastic opportunity for residents of Harpenden to acknowledge the sacrifices paid by our Armed Forces past and present and it was lovely to see the event so well supported with so many people attending.”

Celebrations also took place at St Mary’s Church in Sandridge and in Bricket Wood, where another parade took place.
