A discount food store could be one step closer to coming to St Albans.
Developer Consolidated Property Group (CPG) has applied to St Albans council for permission to remove a historic restriction on the sale of food at the former British Gas site on Griffiths Way.
CPG has conditional planning permission to build a discount food store, a non-food retail outlet, a gym and a restaurant and drive-through. According to CPG’s website, the principal occupiers of the site would be Costa Coffee, Aldi and a pre-let to B&Q.
These would be in competition with the Sainsbury’s, McDonald’s and Homebase outlets on Griffiths Way.
The application to remove the restriction is out for consultation and anyone who wishes to comment on it can do so by going to St Albans council’s website and searching for 5/2018/2300. All comments must reach the council by September 26 and must include the reference number.
