A FLAG wound tightly around a steeple pole 230 feet from the ground turned into a technical hiccup at St Albans Abbey yesterday (Wednesday).
The Cathedral went to change the flag on February 6 to fly the Union Flag for Accession Day, the anniversary of the Queen’s Accession to the throne.
But staff were dismayed to discover that recent high winds had wound the Alban pennant tightly around the flag pole atop the steeple.
As it could not be easily shifted the Abbey had to call on local steeple jacks Rodell Ltd to fix the problem.
It took an hour to unwrap the pennant.
