An exhibition showing the history of homelessness and squatting in the city has officially opened at the St Albans Museum + Gallery.
The launch party for the ‘Squatlife’ exhibition, which features Dave Kotula’s photographs of squatted premises in 1980s St Albans, was held at the museum on Sunday, July 15.
The mayor of St Albans, cllr Rosemary Farmer, officially opened the exhibition. More than 120 people attended, including representatives from Herts Young Homeless and London-based theatre company Cardboard Citizens.
As part of the project, Cardboard Citizens will be working with homeless or recently homeless people from St Albans to create theatre based on their experiences, culminating in a public performance at the Abbey Theatre on Friday, July 27, entitled ‘Trespassers Welcome’.
The show is a pay-what-you-can-afford performance and tickets are available from the Abbey Theatre website.
