SPRINT and flip is the message from St Albans District Council as it urges teams to take part in the annual pancake race which takes place in the city centre on Tuesday.

The race starts at midday outside the Town Hall and the victorious team will win the prestigious frying pan award with their name engraved on it.

Last year's winners, the St Albans Arts, Sports and Health team from Leisure Connection, were disqualified for not stopping at the designated spot while tossing the pancakes.

That allowed the council's environmental health team to triumph with St Albans Abbey Clergy - winners in 2005 and 2006 - and the Alban Arena teams runners-up.

A team of four people is needed to take part and they have to run and toss a pancake, catching it in their frying pan. Comical team names, fancy dress and corporate colours are welcome but not obligatory.

To register a team contact the Tourist and Information Centre in Market Place on 01727 864511 or email tic@stalbans.gov.uk
