A DRIVER ended up behind the wheel in his own flat after skidding through a large window in the snowy conditions yesterday (Monday) afternoon.

The man was trying to park in a bay outside his flat in Hardwicke Place, London Colney, at around 2.30pm when he smashed through the large window of his ground-floor property.

A crew from St Albans fire station attended the scene and pulled the Ford Sierra out of the flat using manpower and blocks to prevent it slipping on the snow again.

A firefighter said that the car, which was left badly damaged at the front, had come to a halt with the bonnet ending up in the bedroom of the flat.

The man, believed to be in his 30s, was uninjured in the accident but the firefighter said that he and his partner were left shaken.

The window had to be boarded up but there is not believed to be any structural damage.
