BOWMANSGREEN had plenty to celebrate after defeating Skyswood 5-3 in the final of the St Albans City FC penalty prize competition on Saturday at Clarence Park.

Having beaten Ss Alban and Stephen and Prae Wood in earlier rounds, Bowmansgreen Primary School, Telford Road, London Colney, were indebted to star goalkeeper William Curtis who excelled through the competition. Jamie Bill maintained a 100 per cent record, scoring in each of the rounds and Kieran Goldie, the youngest member of the team did extremely well.

Lord Faulkner presented the prizes during the half term interval of the City match against Hampton & Richmond.

All the boys received a football courtesy of St Albans City FC and each member of the team will also be given the opportunity to visit the David Beckham Football Academy.

Bob Bridle, Secretary of the Primary Schools Sports Association, said: "All of the schools that have taken part this year have really enjoyed the opportunity to come down to Clarence Park. Thanks must go to Tony Keen (Commercial) and Karen Gibson (Youth Development at St Albans City) for their part in organising the competition.
