Eleanor Bull, who lives with her mum Sian, dad Gavin and little brother Adam, raised the money in support of her uncle Paul who lives with multiple sclerosis (MS). She was named one of three finalists to be recognised at the MS Society’s award ceremony in London on Friday.

As she loves baking, Eleanor decided to host a hot chocolate and cake morning to raise money, converting her parents’ kitchen into a cafe. She planned the event and called on her parents, grandparents and school friends to help. She decorated the kitchen with a Christmas theme, served festive cakes and biscuits, and acted as waitress taking down visitors’ orders in her notebook.

Her grandmother, Petra, said the event made a big impact on both Paul and Eleanor’s mum’s friend who also has MS. She said: “They were both deeply moved, especially knowing that Eleanor was thinking about them. But it’s heart-warming to see her also realise that the money she raised will help other people with MS.”

Eleanor is also a committee member of her junior school council, which helps raise money for various charities. Speaking about the money she raised, Eleanor said: “I feel really good about it. I think I’m proud of myself. I really like helping people.

“It felt really good to be nominated. I don’t like missing school because learning is important but coming to this celebration is more important.”

MS affects more than 100,000 people in the UK, and can cause problems with how you walk, move, see, think and feel.

MS Society chief executive Michelle Mitchell said: “The MS Society Awards are our way of celebrating and recognising the hard work and dedication of people who make a difference in the MS community.

“We are proud to have Eleanor as one of this year’s finalists, and we’re looking forward to welcoming her and her family to our awards ceremony.”
