Short film about St Albans wins national ‘love living’ competition

Joe Medforth has been awarded a prize of £500 as well as a further £500 to donate to the community group of his choice after picking up the people’s choice award in the inaugural ‘Love Living in’ film contest.

Organised by property specialist Leaders, it attracted entries from across the country, along with tens of thousands of online views and a similar number of likes and shares.

It was held to enable people to show what makes residents love the place they live in.

Joe won his category because his short film on St Albans attracted the highest number of unique views, likes and social shares.

St Albans Abbey, Verulamium Park, independent stores such as Chaos City Comics and Empire Records, along with St Albans Museums, the medieval Clock Tower, Hypocaust and the Odyssey cinema feature in his video.

So too does Luke Ridge of Chaos City Comics, Heritage Close, who when asked what he loves about living here, replies: “The great thing about St Albans is its diversity. We have some of the best independent businesses.”

Viewers are later told that people care about St Albans, take an interest in what is happening in the city and the district, and that “it’s a wonderful place to live.”

Joe said it was ‘fantastic’ to receive the award as he was keen to show how much he loves living in St Albans.

He named his former drama department at Beaumont School as the recipient of his £500 community prize.

Zoe Shepherd, head of drama, said the school was pleased to be remembered by one of its former pupils. The money will be used to help maintain Beaumont’s primary school outreach work, including workshops for youngsters.

David Underwood, lettings manager at Leaders in St Albans, said: “We are delighted people supported Joe. His video tour of the area certainly shows off some of the finest points of life in St Albans, which is a fantastic place to live.”
