Short film about Harpenden woman’s time in Auschwitz hits fundraising target

A short film based on a Harpenden woman’s experiences in Auschwitz has exceeded its funding target of £12,500.
A campaign to fund 10 minute short Kitty’s Fortune opened on the fundraising website Kickstarter at the beginning of June and raised £12,770 in just one month with the help of 131 backers.
The film’s producer Sophie Shad said: “I knew that the idea is one that people really care about and I had faith that we could make the funds.”
But it wasn’t all plain sailing, as with 35 minutes before the fundraising deadline the crew were still £350 short of their goal. Luckily, one individual contributed enough money at the last moment to take the team to their target.
The crew began filming recently at their Harpenden recreation of Auschwitz.
The film is a part of Sophie’s MA at the Royal Central School of Speech and Drama and will be completed by September 18.
The team will soon begin contacting film festivals across the world to establish where it will have its premiere.
