Police are appealing for information following the theft from the stables in Lower Luton Road between 3pm on Sunday afternoon and 8.45am yesterday (Monday) morning.

The thieves broke into the site and it is thought that they then loaded the nine-year-old pony called Cotton Candy into a van.

The cream coloured pony has whirls on the centre of the forehead, centre of the back and double whirls on both stifles.

Pc Andrew Yuill from the Harpenden Safer Neighbourhood Team said: "This incident has been extremely upsetting experience for the owners of the pony and has caused much inconvenience and unnecessary distress. I am appealing to anyone who may have seen people acting suspiciously near to the stables, or saw a van or knows anything about the theft to please come forward."

Anyone with information should contact Pc Yuill on 0845 33 00 222 or, alternatively, people can call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
